Eight years ago everything became crystal clear, I learned a lot from my surrounding and the fact that after class eight I had to proceed to secondary then university and probably graduate with a first class honors.

We both know of the 8-4-4 system of education, right? When it comes to me, it didn’t ring a bell until when I was in class eight and this meant I had eight more years of study divided in two- fours (4-4) and guess what, I had a dream of becoming a lawyer.

We both have dreams and ambitions but sometimes they never become a reality. Did I say NEVER? Yes! Your dreams will never see the light of day if you don’t make sacrifices, work hard and be relentless towards achieving them.

Let’s say fate had my back, I had a successful transition and managed to complete the 8-4-4 system of education but the bigger question is, what next after Graduation?

What to know as a graduate

Did you realize you were doing all these because you need money? They say education is the key to a brighter future, that’s true but one thing for sure the future isn’t everywhere. In a world full of diversification everyone has a place and as a graduate it’s good to find your lane and realize you are not special than anyone.

The ability to be persistence and get out of your comfort zone is the only secret to success, it takes time but one day things will eventually fall into place.

Timing has a way of grouping us, some started working while in university, some found jobs immediately after graduation and some get a fair share of struggles before landing their dream job. If you are reading this and you are a graduate, may you live to make your parents or guardian proud when you finally get you dream job but keep the following in mind:

What to do as a Graduate:

After graduation, the society expects us to find jobs and help those in need for the purpose of development and creating awareness. It is the right thing to do but sometimes life has a way of giving us lemons.

Giving up is always an option but don’t make it your choice- Gusty Naveli

  • After graduation don’t sit back and wait for a job. I am 100% sure you are qualified for one but nothing comes on a silver plata and sometimes despite the documentation, some companies will always consider someone else regardless of how qualified- reasons best known to themselves.

The key point is shifting your attention and focusing on something that will lead to your growth. Growth can be in terms of finance of improving your skills and as long as it is beneficial I support the work of your hands.

Be creative in what you do, whether it is your talent, passion or entrepreneurship, give it your all and remember to apply for jobs on your career too when the opportunity arises.

I consider connection as currency, be ready to network with people from different fields and make new friends always. I don’t have the exact recipe for success but am constantly taking notes from the best. If you had nowhere to start from, feel free to use this as a starter pack and GOOD LUCK.
